Barclay Avenue Drain Cleaning on a Growth Corridor
Barclay Avenue, county road 585, runs along the east side of Spring Hill beside the Suncoast Parkway, and it is where most of the town's new growth is happening. In ZIP 34609, 51 percent of homes were built in 2000 or later, and a new M/I Homes community, Anderson Snow Estates, is selling in 2026 on 50- and 60-foot homesites.
The county has also programmed a widening of the road, with Phase I from SR-50 to Lucky Lane budgeted at $3,452,000 for fiscal 2027 and later phases running toward Elgin and Powell. This page covers homes along the corridor; Silverthorn, Pristine Place and Villages of Avalon each have their own.
Homes Along the Barclay Avenue Corridor and What Clogs Them
ZIP 34609 has the newest large block of housing in Spring Hill: 88.8 percent detached houses and about 2.7 people per household, which adds up to a lot of kitchens and washers. Calls lean toward grease, wipes, and young roots at joints rather than failing old pipe.
Road work and new tie-ins can disturb buried utilities, so a camera record of your lateral before and after nearby construction is cheap insurance at $150 to $300. We cannot say which addresses the widening will touch; the county's plans did not name lots in anything we reviewed.
Corridor Calls: What Each Job Handles on Barclay
Newer houses, big households and nearby construction decide which of these we reach for first.
- Hydro Jetting Services — Aimed at the recurring grease and lint clogs of 2.7-person households in 2000s houses.
- Sewer Line Hydro Jetting — Applies only where a sewer lateral actually exists, which we confirm before pressure goes in.
- Kitchen Line Grease Jetting — Takes on the kitchen load of a family house and strips what a cable leaves behind.
- Root Removal & Line Clearing — Young roots at the joints of 2000s laterals get a cutter head, then a flush.
- Drain Cleaning & Snaking — Covers single fixtures, such as a washer standpipe or a tub drain, in ZIP 34609's detached houses.
- Sewer Camera Inspection — Builds a before-and-after record of your lateral if road work or tie-ins happen near the lot.
Septic or Sewer on a Growth Corridor: Confirm First
Even on a growth road, confirm before assuming. The county's 2023 inventory counted 40.2 percent of its parcels as known sewer and 44.4 percent as known septic. Ask Hernando County Utilities at (352) 754-4037; the septic-or-sewer guide lists other clues, and sewer line jetting applies only where a sewer lateral exists.
For a home with a county connection, our post on who to call for a sewer backup sorts out the first call. Nearby are Silverthorn off the avenue and Elgin Boulevard at the corridor's southern junction.

Barclay Avenue Widening, ZIP 34609 Housing and Karst Numbers
Barclay's housing is the newest of any large block in Spring Hill, and the road itself is about to be rebuilt.
- The county's Barclay Avenue widening lists Phase I from SR 50 to Lucky Lane at $3,452,000 for construction in fiscal 2027, with Phases II and III running 2.9 miles to Elgin and Powell, cost to be determined. Road reconstruction exposes or relocates utilities and adds new connections, so expect locate calls and development tie-ins along the corridor.
- In May 2026 county commissioners voted 5-0 for design of the section from Powell Road to Lucky Lane, which the public works director put at about $40 million overall. A project that size will be built in stages over years, so the pipes under neighboring lots may see different construction disturbance at different times.
- ZIP 34609, which covers most of the corridor, has 18,853 homes and a median build year of 2000, with 38.7 percent built in the 2000s. This is the newest large block of housing in Spring Hill, so laterals are fifteen to thirty years old and problems skew toward grease, wipes and early root growth.
- Only about 3.9 percent of ZIP 34609's homes predate 1980, and 17,100 of 18,853 are detached houses. Almost no old clay or cast iron means a camera usually finds plastic pipe, and almost every address has its own private lateral.
- About 83.7 percent of occupied homes in ZIP 34609 are owner-occupied, 14,728 of 17,593. Owners decide on cleaning and inspection themselves, and preventive jetting is easier to sell where the person paying is the person living there.
- The U.S. Geological Survey puts the average depth to limestone in Hernando County at about 50 feet, with sinkholes giving water a direct route to the aquifer. A leaking lateral or septic effluent is not filtered by thick clay here, so the county watches sewer and septic work closely.

We cannot say for a specific address. County planning documents describe phases and costs rather than affected lots. If crews work near your lateral, a camera inspection before and after gives you a record, and the county can answer questions about your parcel.
We treat the corridor as the homes and communities along county road 585, from Anderson Snow Road in the south to SR-50 in the north. Streets just off it count. If you are unsure about your address, text it to 813-733-7188.
Look for a cleanout cap near the foundation and a county utility bill that includes sewer. A concrete or plastic lid in the yard suggests a tank. Health Department permit files may name your system. We help sort it out before any jetting.
We cover homes along the corridor generally, including new construction. Builder warranty clocks run, so a camera inspection early on documents debris or sags while they can still be raised with the builder. It costs $150 to $300.
A snake suits a single stopped fixture, at $150 to $325 depending on the line. Hydro jetting suits repeat grease clogs or a main that keeps slowing, at $350 to $650 for a standard residential visit. The camera tells us which.
